What are Periodontics?

Root Surface Debridement (RSD)
Root Surface Debridement (RSD) is a treatment that targets the area below the gum line to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Specialized instruments are used to gently loosen and wash away deposits from tooth surfaces. This procedure is often recommended when at-home cleaning alone isn’t enough to improve gum health. The goal of RSD is to remove harmful bacteria deep within the gums, which are responsible for gum disease. Local anesthesia ensures comfort during the procedure, and multiple sessions may be needed to allow the gums to heal properly between appointments.

Gum Grafting
As gum disease advances, it can cause gums to recede, giving your teeth a longer look and possibly creating unsightly gaps (black triangles) or increasing sensitivity. Over-brushing can also contribute to gum recession. Gum grafting is a solution where tissue from the roof of your mouth or an animal source is used to cover the exposed roots of your teeth, improving both aesthetics and comfort.

Crown Lengthening
Excess gum tissue around your teeth can create a “gummy smile” or make your teeth appear too short. Additionally, a high smile line can cause a similar effect. Crown lengthening reshapes both the gum tissue and the bone surrounding your teeth, allowing them to appear more natural and proportionate, giving you a more confident, beautiful smile.

Peri-implantitis
Dental implants have revolutionized oral care, but they are not immune to gum disease. Without proper maintenance, gum disease can develop around the implant, leading to gum swelling, bone loss, and even the failure of the implant. This condition is known as peri-implantitis. Treatment involves thoroughly cleaning the implant and surrounding tissue. In some cases, bone or gum grafting may be required to ensure the longevity of the implant
